What is time tracking and why do we do it?

In the list of necessary evils timesheets are up there with traffic wardens and travel insurance, but they genuinely are important for people who enjoy getting paid.

They are absolutely not so that we can check up on you (we are not machines in a factory; we know no-one works for 8 solid hours a day) - but doing your timesheets accurately and regularly are crucial because:

  1. Because as a business, we charge clients based on time. Without knowing what time was spent on what, JustSo can’t get paid on time or accurately. If JustSo doesn’t get paid, we don’t get paid. We also need you to log all internal time too - from team brekkie to our socials.

  2. It’s a big part of how we plan resource for future jobs. If we don’t accurately know how much time you needed for ‘Job A’, we won’t necessarily know how much time you will need for ‘Job B’. If this lack of data means we underestimate, you end up over-stretched. If we overestimate, you end up twiddling your thumbs and missing out on briefs because we think you don’t have capacity.

  3. It makes your colleagues' lives easier. Now here’s the real guilt trip. Irregular and/or inaccurate timesheets cause headaches for other people! Be kind, do your timesheets.

Incentives

(yes, we have resorted to bribery).

We know, and you know, there is only one true way to people’s hearts…

🍫 snacks 🍫.

The office snack selection is directly impacted by everyone’s collective efforts to do their timesheets.

If everyone has submitted them by 5pm on a Wednesday, the good snack wheel will be spun, and you will see top tier beauties lining our cupboards. Galaxy Ripples GALORE.

If anyone hasn’t done them by 5pm on a Wednesday, the bad snack wheel will be spun. Expect to see water crackers and raw, unsalted almonds - gross :(

So, you have the power to give the people good snacks…

go forth and log that time!
